Sony VAIO Laptop

The new Sony VAIO laptop, with its stunning features and charismatic characteristics have helped the model in invading the minds of users. VAIO, the acronym for Video Audio Integrated Operation, is a sub-brand for Sony, the electronic giant. The branding was done by Sony to distinguish items that encompassed the usage of consumer audio and video, as well as being conventional computing products. Sony was a big name in the Japanese computer market in the 1980s, but left the field in the end of the decade. Its re-entry to the computer market, this time globally, was in 1996 with a new brand name VAIO with the PCV series of desktops. The VAIO logo of the brand which became a big hit represents the integration of analog and digital technology. The 'VA' represents an analog wave and the 'IO' represents digital binary code.

Sony plans to expand the use of the VAIO label. Among its new products include notebooks, sub notebooks, desktops and a hard-disk-based audio player that comes in both 20GB and 40GB variations. The network media solutions by Sony will also carry the brand name VAIO. High-end Sony VAIO notebooks usually get shipped with Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium or Business, while low-end laptops such as the N series come with Microsoft Vista Home Basic. VAIO computers come with components from Intel processors, Seagate technology or Fujitsu hard drives and Sony Speakers.

The recent models from Sony VAIO, such as the TX or SZ, have implemented the LED backlit XBRITE LCD, that further enhance the power saving and accurate color reproduction capability of the LCD unit. The VAIO SZ series features both an Intel GMA950 graphics chip and an NVIDIA graphics chip. The high-end AR Series VAIOs were the first models to incorporate a Blu-ray Disc burner. These laptops were designed to be the epitome of high-definition products including a 1080p capable WUXGA (1920 × 1200 pixels) screen, HDMI output and the aforementioned Blu-ray burner. The AR series also includes an illuminated logo below the screen.

Is Your Laptop Running Slow?

Is your laptop running slow? Remember sometime around this time last year, or maybe the year before that (if it was before then we'll just pretend) when your new computer worked perfectly? It only took seconds for your computer to boot up. Now you can take a shower, have breakfast and wash the dishes in the time it takes the start menu to show up. Why is your laptop running slow?

Your computer is similar to your car in that you need to maintain it. Ever notice the difference between an older well maintained car and a car that was never maintained. The same differences exist between a well maintained computer and one that is just worked to death.

To make your computer run faster you can just reformat the whole computer, although if you have a lot of information and programs on your computer then this may not seem like such an appealing task. Of course, you could just decide to bite the bullet, clean up your files, eliminate what you don't need, burn all your files onto a CD. Save any programs you want and reformat. Yuck! What a job! This one is up to you.

You could go into the windows registry and fix the registry problems that are probably slowing down your computer. The thing of it is; do you know where the windows registry is and what to fix when you get there?

The windows registry is a central component to the windows system and it holds all of the windows applications, sort of like a large database. And because it is like the backbone of the whole system if you manually change something that you were not supposed to change. Whoops! There goes the system, and all your files, and all your music, and all your photos. Oh, oh, now what!

There are programs that help you clean the windows registry on your laptop. These are called windows registry cleaners, and can be found and downloaded to your computer. Using one of these windows registry cleaners will tune up the windows registry and make your laptop run faster and more efficiently. Just as a tune up does the same for your car.

The benefit of a windows registry tune-up is that you can do it yourself, because most registry cleaning utilities are easy to use. All you need to do is, install it, run the program and let it find and list the errors for you. Before letting the program fix the errors, choose the create a back up option, just in case something should go wrong, and then click fix registry and you are done. The program does the rest for you and you wont have to suffer from your laptop running slow again.

How to Get a Free Laptop

Getting a Free Laptop has become a new trend. A "Get a Free Laptop" website owner was recently interviewed by CNN - since then the site's laptop giveaway had skyrocketed!

So how does the whole free laptop program work? The site which offers you a free laptop requires from 3 to 10 sign-ups to different programs and products. Some are free trials, some are 1-5$/month memberships which could be cancelled.

When you sign up for such membership, you become a potential client for the company. The owner of the site receives a pretty decent amount of money for each and every person who signs up through his (her) site. So if each company offers you 200$ for a new client, it adds up to 1000$ from 5 companies. Laptop costs 500$. When you sign up for all the memberships, the owner of the Get Free Laptop site receives 1000$, then sends you a 500$ laptop and his is profit is roughly 500$ per person. It's a win-win-win situation for you, advertiser and the Free Laptop site owner.

Be aware! Some of these sites are pure scam and will never give you a penny for anything. Certain sites were talked about in the news on CNN and NBC - the credible sites, the ones that actually give you a laptop when you complete the required offers. Spending 1$-20$ on great offers and receiving a brand new free laptop for it is one heck of a deal!

When you decide to get a free laptop, make sure the site is legit and real. If the site does not offer a way of getting in touch with them - it is 100% scam. You should also be able to verify your gift status at any time.

Get a Free Laptop - Truth or Myth?

Recently CNN interviewed an owner of the free laptop website. They confirmed a website was not another scam but the real deal. Although only available to USA residents, the website does give away laptops for free, or almost.

So how does the whole "Get a Free Laptop" system work? It's actually very simple. Once you're at their website, you have to choose a laptop you want and fill out the e-mail address field. Next you will have an option of filling out a quick short 1 page survey. This step is optional.

Then, you will be offered many different memberships and trials, most of these are free for a week or so, with a possibility of cancellation without a fee, some offers require you to make a purchase costing a dollar or two. In order to get a free laptop you will have to complete 2 silver offers, 2 gold offers and either a) 6 platinum offers or b) Have 20 offers completed by people you refer. Please take note; you will have to do either "a" or "b", not both.

When the required steps are completed, your laptop is on its way. Make sure you provided the correct address, PO boxes are not acceptable.

So where does the actual laptop come from? The owner of the website receives a decent amount of money from the advertiser for each offer you complete. Why does the advertiser pay so much money for it? Well, when you complete an offer, even free trials, you become a potential client for the advertiser. The whole "get a free laptop" system is a win-win-win deal for you, the website owner and the advertiser.

Beware, some of the Free Laptop sites are scams, and will never send you a laptop. If a website doesn't provide you with their contact information - it is scam. The site should also offer a possibility of verifying your gift status. You will need this, to make sure you completed all the offers required and that the laptop was shipped to you.

8 Steps to Evaluating a Used Laptop Computer

If you have considered purchasing a used laptop computer you might first want to review the following step by step evaluation process to ensure that you get a good quality used laptop computer.

Step 1-Find out what external hardware is included with the computer. At a bare minimum, the laptop computer will need a power cord. Other options that might be included are an external mouse, keyboard and floppy disk drive. Additional hardware offerings could include a microphone, speakers, printer, scanner, external wireless card and battery.

Step 2-Find out what internal hardware is included with the computer. The most popular internal hardware component is the internal wireless network card. Other internal hardware components include things such as a video card, DVD drive, CD Rom drive, and a sound card.

Step 3-Before you even consider purchasing a used laptop computer, ask if the computer components are original, repaired or replaced.

Step 4-Ask the seller if the machine is in full working condition. Some questions you might ask include a. does the machine power on and off properly; b. is the monitor clear without scratches or flaws; c. does the battery work properly; d. does the computer work properly without the battery installed and, if so, how long does the battery stay charged.

Step 5-Determine what operating system is installed in the used laptop computer. The newest version of Windows, called Windows Vista, is not always compatible with all softwares. You will need to find out what operating system is running the computer and research if that operating system will run the software that you intend to install.

Step 6-Find out what software is being included with the computer.

Step 7-Thoroughly research competitive prices for the make, model and year of the used laptop computer that you are considering buying. This is easy to determine by reviewing the bids on similar products on Ebay.

Step 8-If the machine is a fairly new machine, it might still be covered under warranty. If so, ask the seller if the warranty is transferrable to you upon purchase.

The Low Down On Laptop Computer Batteries

Your laptop computer's battery is a very vital component of your system. Unless you are plugged into an electrical outlet 24/7 then you will want a good laptop computer battery. However, as with everything else in the free world---there are so many choices. And, unless you spend hours scouring the internet you probably don't know which battery will best suit your needs. I've done some research and I will share what I have found so maybe I can save you some time and energy.

There are basically five different types of batteries: alkaline; lead acid; lithium-ion; nickel cadmium; and nickel-metal hydride. Following is a brief explanation of each and their common uses.

Alkaline
The standard alkaline is most commonly used in household appliances-your flashlight, remote control and most children's toys. These batteries can be found almost anywhere. Your laptop computer itself will most likely not use the Alkaline battery because they aren't rechargeable. However, you will need them for a lot of your hardware-PDAs and printers for example.

Lead acid
The lead acid battery is like the battery found in your car. This heavy lead laden energy source is known for its longevity and durability. Obviously, you don't use this in your computer either!

Lithium-Ion
Now we are getting somewhere! The Lithium-Ion battery is a great laptop computer battery. This battery is lightweight and out performs other laptop computer batteries ten fold. The Lithium-Ion doesn't loose its zip over time either. Unless you get a defective one, the Lithium-Ion battery should last as long as your laptop computer.

Nickel Cadmium
Commonly known as the NiCad, this battery was great, in its day. With today's technology this the NiCad can be easily outperformed. The NiCad battery looses its charge fast and over time and multiple chargings it looses its potency.

Nickel-Metal Hydride
The Nikel-Metal Hydride batter is one step above the NiCad when it comes to longevity of the charge. However, this battery is just as bad as the NiCad when it comes to extended usage.

What to Do With Your Laptop At The Airport When Nature Calls?

Both you and I all have been there, I mean when you got everything setup on your laptop and ready to get some work done in a quiet spot in an airport terminal when nature call.

What do you do when you have to get up for a moment to pay the visit to the bathroom?

Do you:

1. Just leave your laptop and pray that know one would notice it or worst steal it.

2. Look for a respectable, trusty looking fellow passenger to look after your laptop during your absent.

3. Take the time to turn off your laptop (this is about 4 mins process for my laptop), yes I mean saving all the files, shutting down all the application, disconnecting from the WiFi service and pack everything back up.

4. Get yourself a laptop lock that you can use to secure your mobile computing machine to one of the airport fixtures that is not likely to be moved during your bathroom visit.

I have to confess that I can not tell you which one out of these 4 tactics you should use to secure your laptop while you answer the call of nature. Each situation is unique and I can not say to you that any of the tactics above will 100% guarantee your laptop from any airport theft out there.

Throughout my traveling years working on my laptop in airport terminals after airport terminals across the country and the world I have to say that I have use all of the 4 tactics above. I’m very glad to say that I have yet to have a laptop walk away from me (knock on wood) throughout these years.

Ok if you really want me to pick out the tactic that I prefer it would have to be tactic number 4. For me carrying a laptop lock seems to be the most logical and the least hassle choice. From doing a little research I also found out that the sale figures of these laptop locks like my Kensington have risen sharply while the number of laptop theft at airport have decline. Something must be working and I want to say that it is my Kensington laptop lock and my good luck that keep my laptop from walking away. So what should you do with your laptop? I still can’t tell you but for me it the laptop locks.

How To Replace Your Laptop Computer's LCD

Laptop computers have been around for ages. Just as a human, laptop computers also age. Along with age comes broken or damaged parts. Hence, you either have to replace the laptop computer or repair the broken parts. One of the most expensive parts of a computer to replace is the monitor, commonly called the LCD.

LCD stands for liquid crystal display - the technology used to make the flat panel screens and laptop computer screens.

Some common reasons that might make you consider replacing your laptop computer's LCD are (1) the screen has been cracked; (2) you want to upgrade the standard computer screen that came with your unit to a higher resolution LCD screen; or(3) there are lots of dead spaces on your screen which might come from dead pixels.

If you want to tackle the task of replacing your laptop computer's LCD, consider the following steps to ensure that you perform the replacement seamlessly.

Step One
Power off your laptop computer and disconnect the battery and all cables. You will also want to remove the battery as it could cause an electric shock if it remains installed through the process.

Step Two
Remove the rubber screw covers to expose the screws that hold the screen frame in place.

Step Three
Gently pry the LCD screen frame loose. You should then be able to find the LCD screen cable and power cord. Unplug both of these and remove the tape (if any) that is holding the screen in place.

Step Four
You will next need to find out who the manufacturer of your laptop computer's LCD screen is. Keep in mind that the screen's manufacturer might not be the same as the manufacturer of the computer. Ensure that you match the screen that you purchase matches the screen's manufacturer model number.

Step Five
Once you have obtained the appropriate replacement screen, plug the new LSD screen in, secure it with tape, and replace the frame. Be cautious not to crimp any cords when you replace the frame.

Step Six
When you power up your laptop computer, your LCD screen should work properly. If it doesn't, call the supplier where you purchased your replacement screen and ask for technical help.
